Legal Malpractice

Our firm represents institutions, business entities and individuals who have been harmed by the inattention and attorney negligence, and, in some cases, the fraud of their prior counsel. Recently (April 2000) we settled a case on behalf of the Baylor College of Medicine against two of the larger law firms in the United States that we brought in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (with local counsel of Watson & Renner). That case involved the claim that patent counsel for the Baylor College of Medicine negligently failed to identify all of the inventors of a cDNA discovery (p21) that should prove useful in the regulation of cellular growth and the ability to fight cancer. Previously, in the Spring of 1996, our law firm represented individuals and corporations as co-lead trial counsel (with Cooter & Mangold of Washington, DC) in a legal malpractice claim against the Baltimore law firm of Weinberg & Green. After a three-month trial, the jury returned a verdict approaching $25 million in compensatory damages against that law firm for its failure to supervise an associate whose neglect scuttled an important early stage digital technology company based in Hunt Valley, Maryland. Recent and current claims (August 2004) include actions against attorneys who failed to file meritorious claims for their clients before the running of the statute of limitations and actions against attorneys to recover fees charged in violation of the Florida Rules of Professional Responsibility.
